Factors Influencing Effectiveness of Hybrid Work Environments in Large-Scale IT Companies

MBA Business Research Project, London Metropolitan University (ESOFT Metro Campus), 2024–2025 · 2025

This study investigates the factors influencing the effectiveness of hybrid work environments in large-scale IT companies in Sri Lanka. Focusing on five major firms — Virtusa, WSO2, IFS, 99X, and Sysco LABS — the research addresses a knowledge gap in emerging markets.

A quantitative approach was used, with structured online questionnaires collecting data from 375 employees. The analysis examined four key factors: trust and autonomy, clear expectations and goals, effective communication, and supportive leadership.

Findings reveal strong positive correlations between each factor and hybrid work effectiveness, with supportive leadership showing the strongest relationship (r = 0.789). Approximately 80% of respondents reported favourable perceptions of hybrid work, citing improvements in work-life balance, productivity, and collaboration. All four hypotheses were statistically supported through chi-square tests.

The study recommends a comprehensive organizational approach that prioritizes leadership development, trust-based management, clear goal-setting, and robust communication practices.
